葆桢是一位取材广泛的花鸟画家,犹以画葡萄最享盛誉。他的葡萄画用焦墨枯笔草书入画,大写意出藤蔓、枝干,颗颗葡萄融合了西画色彩的特长,既充分利用生宣的浸润性能和水、墨推拒的天然效果,又运用色彩的浓淡变化,并在葡萄中间留出高光点,这一独特的表现手法使他笔下的葡萄水分饱满、丰盛充盈、墨彩交辉、生动自然。墨彩交辉、气韵生动、意境清新、雅俗共赏的艺术效果,深为广大群众所喜爱。

 

传统画葡萄之法,有工笔和写意两种,绘果实往往采用工笔,工笔即用勾勒添色和没骨晕染,因而葡萄缺乏透明的质感,显得死板。而写意则体现于藤子之上,采用书法笔法,象写篆书、行书、草书,追求笔力的纵横于挥洒自如。徐渭、张书旂所作葡萄,重在展示藤叶的疏放与潇洒,或是借此表露个人落拓不拘的性格,对累累果实关注较少。苏先生关注的恰恰就是前人忽略的部分,他认为应该表现那粒粒饱满晶莹的浅紫色或深墨色的葡萄串展示其丰盈充实之美。苏先生以“师造化”为起点,以“师传统”为基石,以“师心”为终极,创造出了独树一帜的葡萄图而享誉海内外。


 

苏先生不拘限使用水墨画葡萄,还运用花青、曙红、胭脂、藤黄相调配,画出紫色葡萄和绿色葡萄,并将紫、墨、绿三色画出不同颜色的葡萄串,配以篮子、盘子或各色花卉,表现不同情状下的葡萄。苏先生对葡萄藤叶和藤本的处理,采用了书法的运笔,显示其苍劲有力和新鲜茂盛。

苏葆帧画作在其离世之后,极少在市面上流通,价值一路增高, 此幅《硕果丰盛》为苏葆帧典型的葡萄画作,具有很高的艺术观赏价值和收藏价值。
